Opening May 27, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the newest addition to Epcot's attraction roster.
Constructed partially in the same building as Ellen's Energy Adventure, this new indoor roller coaster has been highly anticipated. And so far, has rave reviews - unless the reviewer gets motion sickness, then it's a little iffy. This new coaster is boasting a backwards launch and rotating ride vehicles reminiscent of Haunted Mansion "Doom Buggies". GotG:CR is the first-of-its-kind programmable omnicoaster!
Once open, this attraction will be Virtual Queue ONLY, meaning if you want to ride it, you'll have to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane with Disney's Genie service, or take your chances on snagging a boarding group with the virtual queue system. GotG:CR will have rider swap available, so if you have any little ones that don't quite meet the 42 inch height requirement, you'll still be able to ride. It's not yet clear on if this attraction will offer a single rider line since the traditional stand-by queue won't be available.
For the Virtual Queue, guests will be able to try for a boarding group at 7am and 1pm (must be in the park). Guests will see the option to join on the main page of their My Disney Experience app.
Guests staying at Deluxe resorts, Deluxe Villa resorts, Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green will be able to try for an extra boarding group at 6pm on the nights that extended park hours are in effect for Epcot. This means that these resort guests could potentially ride GotG:CR THREE times in one day by purchasing the Individual Lightning Lane at 7am, snagging a boarding group at 1pm, and trying again for the 6pm drop. That's amazing, but would also require some luck and skill in maneuvering through your day and the app efficiently!
The indoor queue, also known as the Galaxarium, will feature a full viewing experience that's over 30 minutes long and shows Xandar, Earth, the Andromeda, Milky Way Galaxies, and Star-Lord’s iconic Awesome Mix Vol. 1. There’s also a pre-show featuring Guardians of the Galaxy characters, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket, and Drax.
In true Disney fashion, there is also a shop located at the exit of the attraction called Treasures of Xandar that is operated by The Broker, where you can find Xandar-inspired merchandise, along with other Guardians of the Galaxy items.
As previously mentioned, this ride can cause motion sickness due to the ride vehicles rotating while you're moving along the track. Otherwise, the coaster is very smooth and most riders have said that as long as you don't try to move your head to see all the screens, the motion sickness can dissipate. It is recommended that guests keep their eyes looking straight ahead since the vehicles will turn you to face the screen you're meant to see. If you're still concerned but want to experience the coaster, we recommend Dramamine or a motion sickness patch prior to riding.
If you've purchased Memory Maker, you'll also be able to get your ride photo from this attraction! Make sure the bluetooth is turned on and enabled to be used by the Walt Disney World parks app and the photo will upload itself to your account via pixie dust.
We hope y'all are as excited as we are to experience this coaster! Leave us a comment if you've ridden and let us know your thoughts!
